Sr. Environmental Health & SAFETY MANAGER

This location is the Flag Ship Manufacturing location for all of Fresenius Medical in North America with over 1,500 full time employees.  Evaluated and coordinated with Directors changes to company policies and procedures annually to ensure full compliance with new or changing Federal and State Safety regulations.  Conducted periodic safety inspections, and audits of 26 laboratories, various manufacturing departments including our radiation areas, to insure the safety of our employees to changing manufacturing processes, new machinery and procedures.

Safety Officer and Training Manager

Wrote, developed, and executed safety training curriculum, presentations, instructor notes, and handouts to DHS/TSA National Headquarters in Washington, DC. Investigated all work-related injuries, accidents, and mishaps at Salt Lake International Airport. Trained DHS employees in airport security across country and overseas. Worked with DEA, FBI, and other federal agencies on aviation and security-related issues and projects.

§    Developed specialized operating practices and modified from standard techniques when necessary based on interpretation of policies, standards, and regulations.

§    Participated in major research project for NASA given to University of Utah Medical School; assisted in development, design, and testing of new AED / CPR device to be used onboard aircrafts worldwide using a universal language.

Managed government contracts for U.S. Air Force. Supervised decontamination and removal of toxic and hazardous wastes from gunnery and bombing ranges. Conducted safety inspections, audits, and underwriting evaluations. Negotiated contracts with other military bases. Prepared written safety programs for client companies and demonstrated proper procedures for Safety & Health Program with checks, audits, and documentation.

§    Negotiated multi-million dollar contract with U.S. Air Force to remediate active bombing ranges across country.

§    Developed marketing program for Salt Lake City branch, including line cards, sales calls, quotes, and advertisements. Initiative resulted in company ultimately going national with several of suggested ideas.

§    Developed revenue-generating ideas never previously implemented, including OSHA and MSHA training, inspection services, and federal compliance services.

Senior Loss Prevention Consultant

Identified ways for employers to comply with state and federal OSHA rules and regulations. Performed a comprehensive safety inspections. Conducted underwriting evaluations to determine level of risk based on OSHA, DOT, EPA, and best practices before issuing new policies. Negotiated solutions and responsibilities between company and insured. Developed plans for correcting inadequate training, safety hazards, and record keeping. Taught monthly classes on wide range of safety-related topics for senior management and key personnel.

Selected Accomplishments:

§    Saved several clients over $500K in insurance premiums through initiatives in reengineering, redesigning, and retraining key personnel in areas where 95% of most executives had little or no training.

§    Reduced frequency and cost of accidents for key accounts by teaching key managers and executives to be proactive versus reactive to safety issues.

§    Earned a National Service award for reducing accident frequency with all major accounts.

Senior Loss Control Consultant

Conducted in-depth safety inspections and investigated work-related accidents for State of Nevada.  Issued OSHA citations on OSHA, DOT, NFPA, and UBC code violations. Worked closely and effectively with State Workers Compensation Fund on loss ratios and types / frequency of accidents per job function. Consulted with manufacturing, military, and building contractors along with professional / service-related workers.

§    Orchestrated all accident investigations for State Fund at Reno/Tahoe International Airport.

§    Worked with General Dynamics on various safety programs at NAS Fallon

§    Worked with Lockheed Martin in reducing their accident frequency in their maintenance dept. at NAS Fallon.

§    Negotiated solutions and safety responsibilities with major accounts resulting in reducing accident frequency rates by 50% over two-year period.

§    Spearheaded, developed, and implemented Undergraduate Degree Program (AA) in Occupational Safety & Health for Nevada State Board of Regents.
